The Photos That Did NOT Win a Pulitzer But Should Have
I join with Michelle Malkin, Greyhawk, Blackfive and others in offering an alternative-to-the-Pulitzer award for the best picture to come out of Iraq or Afghanistan. Many soldiers are sharing their personal photos on Greyhawk's site (which is called Mudville Gazette) and they are worth a look see. Since the soldiers are somewhat preoccupied during combat action to snap a few pics we must leave that sort of photo to the embedded "pros" or official military photographers who accompany the troops. These personal photos show lots of children and other interactions between soldiers & civilians as well as of some of the stuff that most of our military has been up to for the past year....not fighting.....but building and rebuilding Iraq. You will definitely not see these photos in the news.
From the "professional" type photos, however, I must say that these two have been my favorites so far:
Marine Lance Cpl. James Blake Miller during battle for Falloujah: Taken by L.A. Times photographer Luis Sinco. The photo has been dubbed "Marlborough Marine"
An unnamed Iraqi woman proudly displaying proof that she had voted on January 30, 2005 (unfortunately, I have lost the origin of this photo)
