Just Wondering
It seems to me that it must be obvious to every Muslim country in the Middle East and beyond, that what al Qaeda and "foreign insurgents" are doing in Iraq could also be done in thier country as well.
These fanatical Muslims hate Egypt's Mubarak, the House of Saud and the secular government of Turkey every bit as much as they hate the United States.
If and when the opportunity comes, they will attempt to bring about the collapse of every Muslim nation that they can.
Are we, then, in fact, fighting a proxy war against these terrorists on behalf of other Muslim countries? I believe the answer may well be "Yes."
By drawing so much of the manpower and wealth of al Qaeda and other radical groups into the Iraqi theater the United States has undoubtedly provided a large amount of breathing space, not only for ourselves and our Western European "allies" but also our many other "good friends" in the Arab and Muslim world.
And it's not costing them a dime or a rial!
