"I Smell a Rat"
Actually, I didn't smell the rat, our preschool staff did. In the kitchen. They didn't know what the smell was or where it was coming from but it made them feel nauseous enough to come and tell me about it.
I finally found it. Behind and under the refrigerator. It hadn't been dead for long. Just long enough to stink a lot.
With help I got it out, sealed it in one of the AA's cigarette-butt coffee cans and laid it to rest in the church dumptser.
It was only a medium-sized rat. But the rat poison I had put behind the refrigerator last month must have been enough to do it in.
I have often heard the phrase, "I smell a rat!" Now I know what it means.
