Outgoing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was honored at a Department of Defense ceremony today, a cereomony that featured personal words of thanks and praise from President Bush and Vice-President Cheney.
According to the Department of Defense website
After concluding his farewell speech, Rumsfeld was drawn back to the podium by a sustained standing ovation from his employees and friends.Among his final comments Rumsfeld had this to say to the rest of the world:
It is with confidence that I say that America's enemies should not confuse the American people's distaste of war, which is real and which is understandable, with a reluctance to defend our way of life. Enemy after enemy in our history have made that mistake to their regret. . . America is not what's wrong with this world.I couldn't help but notice that the Reuters' version of the story did not mention the standing ovation.
