Locked Door Hinders Bush's Escape In China

In Beijing, China, and wanting to conclude a press conference today, Bush said, "Thank you," and walked stage right to a large set of double doors. He grabbed the handle to open the door and abruptly laughed. The door was locked.

With a slow Jack Benny deadpan and then a shy grin, Bush faced the reporters and said, "I tried to escape....but it didn't work!"

As the reporters laughed, Bush exited behind the stage backdrop.
