$112,000...For a Truffle?

Yep....those gourmet folks really love their truffles! To be honest, I have never tasted anything with truffle in it. Accordingly, I do not profess to have anything more than a naive and ignorant opinion on the subject.

But I do know a good story when I see it. Here it is:

An anonymous buyer (reportedly from Hong Kong) paid $112,000 for a 2.6 pound truffle in an Italian charitible auction today. You can read about it here.

That comes out to be more than $2,692 per ounce. (Gold, by contrast, closed out on Friday at around $467 per (troy) ounce).

It's almost enough to start thinking about buying a trained pig!
