National Guard May Be In Louisiana But Is Their Equipment?

A friend recently returned from a year's military duty in Iraq reminded me that his unit had taken with them vitually every vehicle and inventory item they had when they deployed. All of this was left behind when they returned. Now they are here in Hawaii, but have nothing....no equipment...nada. It is all on order. They hope to get new gear and materielle within the next six months.

Much has been made of the fact that 2/3 or the Louisiana National Guard was present in-state when Katrina hit the coast. But, I wonder, had any of those units deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan recently? And did they return to Louisiana with few or none of their trucks, humvees, portable showers, portable kitchens, sanitation units, portable medical units and water purification contraptions? Were any of them sitting around waiting for these supplies to be replaced sometime in the next 6 months?

If so, that would be a significant matter. Anyone know the answer to this?
